I…I…I’m not sure what to say. (- Literally Speechless.) It seemed to affect everyone differently. Some dismissed it, most loved it. I really loved it. It just suited me, it felt familiar almost. I think it is quite suited to my imagination, like one reviewer once said, it was almost like being in a dream. Words: Outstanding, beautiful, emotional, stunning, heart-breaking, funny. I do feel lucky to be one of the first to ever see it, I am so ridiculously happy right now. Incredible. Going to see it again? Only about another 6 times. The hype and discussion was making it out to be another 3D film. Albeit a legendary one. However I agree with James Cameron (the director), it really isn’t about the 3D, the story enthrals you, binds you and the world is incredibly immersive, almost real. I will add, the 3D makes it even more immersive, you are really there, you see all that the director wants you see. So stunning. There are no gimmicky bullets coming out of the screen, its all about the depth, the realism…. That will have to do until I get my head together. Take his and my word for it, GO SEE IT! (IN 3D). To quote a friend: Just came back from a pre-premier 3D viewing of Avatar. For those who don’t know, James Cameron developed a new 3D stereoscopic camera system (’Virtual Camera’) that allows him to see his actors turned into CG characters and set in CG environments in real-time while shooting and also lends extensive 3D depth to the images. CG effects are no longer an exclusive part of post-production that need to be inserted afterwards but can be viewed and altered during shooting according to the director’s and actors’ needs. Find all the details here and here: And now look forward to seeing it on the big screen in 3D (and nowhere else…)! End Quote 09/11/09
Time passes far to fast when you get involved in work. I wish it didn’t, I can see my life ending up like that of so many others. You need only get involved in something and BLAM, 8 weeks of your life have gone. Hell, if it was something other than work then it may not have been so bad. In a way I don’t feel it was wasted, I have learned much and done plenty but I still feel it went by far too fast. I need to do other things, unfortunately I can’t as much as I hate it and as much as I want to, I need to finish this semester, this year and overall this degree. (I get by on reminding myself it is now less than 1 year, 7 months and 6 days till I graduate. Or 583 days, or 83 weeks, or 13,992 hours, or 839,520 minutes, or 50,371,200 seconds… but who’s counting.) 01/09/09
Joel Stone Cold Steve Bisto Hicks won the World Gravy Wrestling Championships today. On a similar note to the title of this post: It may now be some time before I get my monthly link dump posted. I got half way through it (a lot of work) and just as I went to hit Save…..>…..>……> FROZEN! Timing was perfect, the one time I hadn’t saved my work while writing it, the one time I was writing it without the plugin for auto saving it turned on and the one time it was a link post. It will take me ages to work out how to merge/restore all the bookmarks I was deleting as I went along, stupid idea really wasn’t it? Well, I’ll learn eventually I suppose. The next time I have enough free time to write up the link and picture dump will be later in the week. I might attempt to write a script to automate it actually. That would be easier. 28/08/09
Or “flat hunting” to those not used to my horrific slang terms. I have recently been sifting through many flats and places to stay and I think I finally have confirmed flat mates and a flat to go with it. I was recently in Edinburgh for a couple days (same next week to confirm) and I didn’t realise just how much I missed the place. It was good to see my mates again and get a chippy! /drools/ Also, the fringe festival is on so there was great things to see all over the place. I never had a chance to see any of it myself but maybe next year? Best rated jokes at the fringe festival: • 1) Dan Antopolski - “Hedgehogs - why can’t they just share the hedge?” • 2) Paddy Lennox - “I was watching the London Marathon and saw one runner dressed as a chicken and another runner dressed as an egg. I thought: ‘This could be interesting’.” • 3) Sarah Millican - “I had my boobs measured and bought a new bra. Now I call them Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes because they’re up where they belong.” • 4) Zoe Lyons - “I went on a girls’ night out recently. The invitation said ‘dress to kill’. I went as Rose West.” • 5) Jack Whitehall - “I’m sure wherever my dad is; he’s looking down on us. He’s not dead, just very condescending.” • 6) Adam Hills - “Going to Starbucks for coffee is like going to prison for sex. You know you’re going to get it, but it’s going to be rough.” • 7) Marcus Brigstocke - “To the people who’ve got iPhones: you just bought one, you didn’t invent it!” • 8) Rhod Gilbert - “A spa hotel? It’s like a normal hotel, only in reception there’s a picture of a pebble.” • 9) Dan Antopolski - “I’ve been reading the news about there being a civil war in Madagascar. Well, I’ve seen it six times and there isn’t.” • 10) Simon Brodkin (as Lee Nelson) - “I started so many fights at my school - I had that attention-deficit disorder. So I didn’t finish a lot of them.” 21/08/09
Shame really, I didn’t get to do much this year. I earned money though and that’s always a plus. I head back down to Edinburgh around the 8th of September to a new flat and new flat mates. Should be an interesting year, it could be quite hard. On another note, check out these videos of 2 games and a film coming soon. -Final Fantasy XIV: Here. And one of the most important films for me for the past few years: -Avatar: Here. They are probably the biggest marks on my radar this year. Some other great films are District 9 and possibly Moon. Some of the other games are Final Fantasy XIII, Starcraft 2, Borderlands and Rage. Lessons learned recently: Don’t try to taste test drinks in a bar while hungover. Too much alcohol. |
